Case Study & Interview - The Filmmaker Toolkit

Mobile app for the filmmakers community

Miles Eves, who built The Filmmaker Toolkit app using Effortix is an independent movie director from Australia. This case study will be not only about his app but also about his experience with Effortix and his motivation.

According to Miles, The Filmmaker Toolkit was created in the spirit of the early pioneers and renegades of cinema who would pick up a camera and shoot what was there regardless of theory or convention. The app was made to help people go out and make movies on their own without having to go through institutions like Film Schools or Colleges. The ethos and philosophy of The Filmmaker Toolkit is to go out there and film and get things done.

The Filmmaker Toolkit app was created to help Filmmakers, Film Students or anyone else creating videos to understand the basic fundamentals of Filming as well as providing helpful resources like Document templates such as Storyboards for when you are in pre-production.

It comes with the feature called "Knowledge Base" which breaks down different aspects of production and makes it easier for you to learn and understand how to best tackle making a video or a Film.

This app has a unique experience-based information that will help you with your film or video that you won't find by simply Googling it.

Because Miles is a movie director, it is only fitting that he even made his own promotional video for the Filmmaker Toolkit app.

Miles was kind enough to answer our questions about Effortix and his experience:

How did you find out about Effortix?

I found out about Effortix through some searching online and I think it was on a how-to website that was about Android App building and they linked to the official website in the article and that's how I discovered it.

Did you have the idea of Filmmaker Toolkit in your head before finding Effortix or only after finding out about the platform you decided that this is the app you want to build?

I had the idea before I discovered Effortix, I was really dead set on making it and had planned it out and I had a clear image of the app and how it was going to be an all in one solution to video production. It was kind of like an encyclopedia or a guide that anyone could carry in their pocket and look up on the go. I had previously finished a short film and I wanted to make something that would be useful and that would be efficient and help other people.

If you tried any other App Builders, what has driven your decision to stick with Effortix? Is there anything which makes Effortix better than other solutions that you would point out?

I've seen some other app builders but I didn't really try them as much as Effortix. I think my decision to stay was the User Interface Design and how it meshed with exactly what I wanted and it fell into place almost immediately.

I would say that one of the highlights of Effortix is the fast response of the customer support and also making apps is incredibly easy to do and it helps save time by not learning how to write code and updating the app with new information is very fast and immediate.
